About Department

1. Introduction of Department:

        Botany, the Science of plants, is one of the most useful, most attractive, and most extensive domains of human knowledge, it’s the real beauty of science.

The inception of the Department:

        The Department of Botany, was established in 2001.The basic objective of the Department is to make the subject popular among the students and inclusive progress for the overall development of students and the subject. The Department has all the basic facilities and infrastructure.

Advancement of Department and current status:

        Since its inception in 2001, with UG program and one permanent faculty member, now the Department has three well-qualified faculty members with diverse specializations. Recently, the Department is recognized as Ph. D. research center by the parent university, SantGadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati, and two faculty members are recognized Ph. D. Supervisors. The Department has sufficient infrastructure and instrumentation for conducting routine practical work and basic research leading Ph. D. Also the Department have Botanical garden with medicinal, ornamental and economically important plant species (233 plant species).
Apart from the routing teaching activities, faculty members are also involved in research and extension activities and use to conduct plantation drives on regular basis with the help of Departmental students.

2. Advancement of the Department:

        The Department of Botany was established in 2001 is one of the leading Departments in the field of teaching and research in plant sciences. Initially with B.Sc. U.G., Programme, keeping pace with advances in various aspects of Plant Sciences.

        The Department of Botany was declared as Recesarch Centre in Botany, affiliated under Sant Gadge Baba, Amravati University, Amravati. All Assistant Professors i.e.Dr. R. B. Kalbande, Dr. Rupali P. Shirsat and Dr. Poonam R. Gulhane have acquired Ph.D. degree.Among them two facultiesnamly Dr. R. B. Kalbande and Dr. Rupali P. Shirsat are working asa Research Guide also. Dr. R. B. Kalbande,completed and submitted his Minor Research Project (MRP) fundedby UGC successfully.The total amount sanctioned by UGC was two lacs and eighty seven thousand Rs. only.

3. Present status:

        Recently, the Department of Botany was declared as Recesarch Centre in Botany, affiliated under Sant Gadge Baba, Amravati University, Amravati. All Assistant Professor i.e. Dr. R. B. Kalbande, Dr. Rupali P. Shirsat and Dr. Poonam R. Gulhane have acquired Ph.D. degree. Among them two faculties namly Dr. R. B. Kalbande and Dr. Rupali P. Shirsat are working as a Research Guide also.
